The TTK Schools Group aims to raise awareness of climate change, peak oil and related issues with local schools and youth groups.
We provide engaging, accessible and fun educational workshops as we believe they are an effective way of introducing young people to these issues and of engaging their creativity and imagination to envision a positive future beyond our present-day dependence on fossil fuels.
We also provide lesson plans, support for school eco-days and general advice to teachers and parents. So whether you are trying to create an outdoor learning enviornment or engage your students with transition topics do get in touch, as we want to work with you to get the best learning experience for your pupils.
We work on an ad hoc basis forming when necessary to work with schools on specific projects and workshops.
To date we have worked in partnership with Bounce Theatre, to deliver creative sustainability workshops relating to an environmental play, Planet Phoenix with 6 local primary schools.
We contribute to Kingston council's quarterly school ecozine, an electronic newsletter full of useful information on how local schools can incorporate sustainable living into daily schools life.
We participate in the Borough's annual sustainable schools conference, manning a stand and offering advice to local teachers.
We work with local schools to develop their own vegetable gardens and growing space.
A major project, undertaken by a member of the schools group, has been to research how local schools could better communicate and share their sustainability projects, and design an online tool "Opendoors Kingston" to help them to comply with the National Framework for Sustainable Schools. This project is still in the development phase, and we are looking for funding to realise the project. If you'd like to find out more, please look at the webpage mock ups or read the report, and contact Ksenija.
